Prayer // Approach

Sunday Dec 10, 2023

Sunday Dec 10, 2023

How should we come to God in prayer? What should our attitude or stance be?

The Bible paints a stirring picture of prayer. In the New Testament we see five facets as we approach prayer:
Boldness
Devotion
Persistent
Faith-filled
Earnest

The sermon ends with a vision of what could happen if we grasp the New Testament model of prayer and use it as part of the community on mission at Foundation Church Belfast.

Prayer // Invitation

Sunday Dec 03, 2023

Sunday Dec 03, 2023

Prayer begins with an invitation to come to God and receive from him.

Jesus said, 'Whoever is thirsty, come to me and I will give them living water.'

In this message we examine Jesus' life-changing offer and ask how we might receive this living water that quenches our deepest longings.

Sunday Nov 26, 2023

Following on from one of Jesus' most amazing miracles - raising Lazarus from death - Mary gives Jesus an exquisite display of public honour and devotion. She pours costly ointment on Jesus' feet so that the whole house was filled with the fragrance.

However, Judas, looking on, thought this was a spectacular waste of money. As we delve deeper, we realise that Judas was in it for himself. He didn't really care about the poor, he was just using religious words as a cover for his own greed.

When we see Jesus as 'the Resurrection and the Life' (John 11:25) we either approach him with devotion and thanks, or we recoil in pride. In this message, we examine our options having encountered Jesus, and take steps forward in faith.

Life from Dust

Sunday Nov 12, 2023

Sunday Nov 12, 2023

Jesus brings life from the dust. The man born blind certainly experienced this. But following on from this remarkable healing, onlookers were more reserved about confessing their allegiance to Jesus.
In these three groups, we discern three reasons why people reject faith in Jesus:
The Sceptics
The Self-Righteous
The Scared
However it's only through a proper understanding and inner reception of the gospel that we can encounter Jesus and experience life from the dust.

The Good Shepherd

Sunday Oct 29, 2023

Sunday Oct 29, 2023

A good shepherd is willing to do whatever it takes to cause his flock to flourish. He will do whatever it takes to defend them against their greatest enemies.

This image is drawn upon by Jesus who calls himself The Good Shepherd. He lays his life down for his sheep.

This is in contrast to the hired hand who simply sees the sheep as a way to make money - a means to an end.

In this message we see how Jesus is our Good Shepherd, and how his good leadership over our lives stands in beautiful contrast to that of the 'hired hand' that exert influence over our lives - and in so doing deplete us of life.

Only Jesus knows how to lead us to abundant life - through his death, resurrection, and lordship over our lives.

Do You Want to be Healed?

Sunday Oct 22, 2023

Sunday Oct 22, 2023

To the man who spent 38 years chronically unwell, poor, and a social outsider, Jesus asked, 'Do you want to be healed?'

It sounds like an odd question - who wouldn't want to be healed? But rather than accepting help from Jesus immediately, the man gave a set of excuses.

In this encounter, we gain an insight into the healing power and goodness of Jesus, and understand how he still works today.

The reaction of the religious fundamentalists to this amazing healing demonstrates that for them, seeing is definitely not believing. They saw the miraculous healing but wouldn't believe in Jesus.

This message addresses both the needy and the self-righteous. Both can experience a radical transformation through an encounter with Jesus.
